5.1.3 The Adaptive Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ)

Purpose

The Adaptive Leadership Questionnaire is designed to assess strengths and weaknesses in adaptive leadership. The scenario-based instrument assesses what followers (e.g., colleagues, friends, or group members) think about leader attributes. The questionnaire covers various areas of adaptive leadership. The test is typically taken by individuals in leadership positions, such as managers, executives, supervisors, team leaders, and other decision-makers.

Description

This 30-question questionnaire was developed by Northouse (2021). Using a 5-point Likert scale, it asks test-takers to rate their level of agreement with statements about how their leaders would behave in certain scenarios. Respondents rate each item based on their familiarity with challenging situations.

The reliability and validity of the ALQ have not yet been empirically tested.
